Travel: Green, Amber and Red lists released Posted On 10 May 2021

On Friday, the government announced which countries are on which list for travel this summer

From 17 May, people in England will be allowed to take holidays abroad in a small number of countries. On Friday, Grant Shapps announced which countries are in which category for travel starting next Monday.

The countries have been added into three groups: Green, amber and red, with the green countries having the fewest rules when it comes to travel. The status of each country depends partly on the number of Covid-19 cases in each country as well as the success of their vaccine rollouts.

Green countries

Travellers will need to take a private COVID test in their holiday destination before returning home.
Fill in a passenger locator form online before leaving their destination.
Take a private PCR test on ore before day two of their arrival home.
There is no need to quarantine, or take additional tests unless the post-arrival test is positive.

The 12 countries and territories on the green list are:

Portugal
Israel
Singapore
Australia
New Zealand
Brunei
Iceland
Gibraltar
Falkland Islands
Faroe Islands
South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands
St Helena, Tristan de Cunha and Ascension Island

Amber countries

People should not be travelling to amber countries for leisure.
Travellers will need to take a private COVID test in their holiday destination before returning home.
Fill in a passenger locator form online before leaving their destination.
Self-isolate at home for 10 days.
Take a private PCR test on ore before day two of their arrival home and on day 8.

Red countries

You should not travel to red countries for leisure.
Can only enter the UK if you are a UK or Irish national.
Travellers will need to take a private COVID test in their holiday destination before returning home.
Fill in a passenger locator form online before leaving their destination.
Book a 10-day hotel quarantine and testing package for each member of the group before departure.
Take a private PCR test on ore before day two of their arrival home and on day 8.
Countries can be added to the red list at short notice. If a country’s status changes while you are visiting, you would have to follow the stricter rules on your return.
