Ideas for all the family this Spring bank holiday

It’s here… it’s finally here… Not just the bank holiday, but by the weather forecast, the sunshine too. Summer has finally arrived and with it a whole host of exciting things to do this bank holiday. So, whether it’s just you; you and a partner; you and your extended family or just you and the kids, let’s look at some great ideas how to spend the time.

Go football mad

It’s the Champions League Final this Saturday between two of England’s biggest clubs. And with the long bank holiday, there is no need to worry about carrying over a two-day hangover into work. This means you could get a group of friends and find a good piece of land to have a kick-about with a picnic before heading off to a beer garden with a big screen for the big match.

Have a sports day

This one is for the whole extended family. Grab a couple of rounders bats, the cricket stumps, a croquet set and those badminton racquets and head off out to the beach or to a large, open public space where you can have yourself a full-blown sports day. It’s the perfect way to kick-off the summer with friends and family and you could even pack a huge picnic alongside some Pimms and make a real day out of it.

Go on a hike

It’s amazing what you can find when you go off the beaten track right out of your front door. By using Google Maps you can find great walks that are already available through the countryside, alternatively you could totally ramble and decide which way to go on the spot as and when the chance appears. With the hot weather due, just remember to take plenty of water and snacks as well as a hat for keeping your head cool.

Get out into your garden

Due to the miserable weather we’ve had this May, our gardens are around three weeks behind where they should be, and with the wet weather, weeds are in abundance. With the sunshine coming, now is the time to get outside and have a good tidy. Do some weeding, plant some veg, trim the hedges and lawn, or get really creative and start scattering some seeds or ready-bought annuals in your borders.

Book an impromptu day out

Theme parks and zoos, amongst other attractions are now open and safely following social-distancing guidelines. By using Tesco clubcard points, or other offers available, why not book an impromptu day out. Legoland is the top of any child’s list surely and is perfect for a busy day out in the sun, while zoos and safaris are always a hit. And by going to these places which have been closed for so long, you will be helping them to survive after the recent difficult times.

Whatever you do this bank holiday weekend, have fun and enjoy spending time with each other after what has been such a tough start to the year…
