Premier League Final day – The race for Europe Posted On 21 May 2021

With the relegation places decided a few weeks ago, and the title already won by Man City, we look at who can still qualify for Europe

Man City sealed the Premier League title last week, while Leicester’s loss to Chelsea guaranteed Man Utd second place and a spot in next year’s Champion’s League, which leaves three teams fighting it out for the third and fourth spots and Champion’s League football next season.

Liverpool

Written off just a few weeks ago, Liverpool have had a dismal season defending last year’s Premier League title but have found form in their last few games. They have now leapfrogged Leicester City into fourth place on the same amount of points – 66 – but with a superior goal difference. Their final game is at home vs Crystal Palace, probably the easiest game of the three clubs vying for Champion’s League football.

Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel’s defensive style has helped Chelsea turnaround their season and now sees them sitting in third place, one point above both Leicester and Liverpool. With a week to go until the Champion’s League final against Man City, it is unlikely they will not go for a win on Sunday against an impressive Aston Villa side to ensure one way or another they will be in the same competition next year.

Leicester City

Leicester have been sitting pretty in the top three for months now, however, their recent form throws back memories of Brendan Rodger’s Liverpool who were pipped to the title a few seasons back. Can Rodgers steady the ship and prove that his teams can play under pressure? They play a poor Tottenham team who are also fighting for a European place, albeit in the newly formed Europa Conference League and with the furor around Harry Kane’s imminent departure echoing around London.
