How to create more storage space using seating Posted On 30 August 2023

Seating fixtures are a surprisingly effective option when it comes to creating more storage space in your living room

Living rooms are the one room in your home that are meant to be as uncluttered as possible for the purpose of optimising maximum cosiness. Therefore, the sneakier the better when it comes to incorporating storage space, and these two ideas are the some of the stealthiest.

Sofas

Particularly if your living room is on the smaller side, making use of all available space is a must to neatly hide away your clutter. A great way to do this is to be clever about the sofa you have in your living room. Instead of going for the traditional kind, opt for a built-in bench instead which will add storage below and to each side. This will provide a significant amount of additional storage space in your reception room. And, since it’s a bench, this will offer flexibility with regards to colour and décor. Painting the bench sofa in the same colour as your living room’s existing colour schemes will mean it will blend seamlessly into the space.

Bay window seats

If you have a bay window, whether it’s a box style or bow style, there is opportunity to create seating there if there isn’t already, and under bay window seating can easily and quickly become incredibly useful storage space. Simply lifting the seating upward to reveal built-in storage space is a great way to make use of potentially wasted space, whilst also providing additional seating in your living room. If you don’t currently have a bay window, but have an alcove in your living space, there is certainly promise to create a bay window from scratch and include storage seating. Bay window storage is discreet, elegant, and fun, and there is a wide range of different style seating on the market to choose from too. If you have an overload of items you don’t want to have on show, and have either an available alcove or two, or an existing bay window, this could be a perfect solution for your storage needs.
