Get fit while raising money for charity Posted On 26 November 2018

If you’re looking for an incentive to get fit and be more healthy in the New Year, then why not sign up for one of the many Race For Life events taking place in 2019 and help a good cause along the way

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a series of women-only events raising money for research into all 200 types of cancer. Events take place from May 2019 and range from 5k, 10k, a Half Marathon and Pretty Muddy®.

The 5k and 10k

The 5k – or just over three miles – is an achievable distance for all ages and abilities, and you can choose to take part however you like; whether you run, jog or walk your way around the course!

There are more than 150 Race for Life 5k events across the UK, so you won’t need to travel too far to find one. However, if you’re looking to take part in a longer distance, then fear not! Cancer Research also has 10k (or just over 6 miles) events available. It may sound a little daunting but, with a bit of training, is certainly an achievable challenge for anyone to undertake.

The Half Marathon

At a distance of 13.1 miles (or 21k), Cancer Research UK’s half marathon is the perfect challenge for women who have previously taken part in one of their 10k events and want to push themselves that one step further.

Despite it being a half marathon, there is no pressure to run the whole course with the option of walking or jogging parts of the course.

Pretty Muddy®

Now this isn’t anything like the 5k and 10k fundraising events. It is instead a muddy obstacle course that women of any ability can climb over, crawl under, and charge through!

So if you’re up for more of a challenge you can choose to take part in either 5k or 10k Pretty Muddy® events. The events start in ‘waves’, each starting 15 minutes apart to ensure everyone on the course is safe. However, if you choose to enter as a group, it’s worth noting that you need to all enter the same wave as, unfortunately, you can’t move ‘waves’ once you’ve signed up.

To take part you must also be female and 13 or over at the time of your event. In addition, Cancer Research UK advises that you should seek your doctor’s advice before registering if you have a pre-existing medical condition.

Pretty Muddy Kids

There is nothing like getting the whole family together to take part in a charity event which is why Cancer Research UK has brought back Pretty Mudder Kids for 2019.

A muddy course with obstacles for the youngsters to climb over, crawl under, and charge through, it’s a fantastic way of getting them involved in such a worthwhile cause.
