Fantastic treat meal that will feed the whole family for just a fiver Posted On 29 June 2022

This is sure to be a hit with both the children and the bookkeeper

We are all keeping an eye on the pursestrings right now.

As the cost of living crisis continues, weekly bills can be a concern, especially when you want to treat the family.

Fortunately, to make an evening special for the whole family you do not have to ship them off to the cinema or arcade, but can instead cook a delicious meal.

However, doing this while still on a budget can be tricky.

Here we have a fantastic recipe for sloppy joes, a true Friday night treat.

All ingredients can be picked up for less than £5 and include a number of products you will likely have already in the cupboard and fridge.

Recipe -

One tbsp vegetable oil

One finely chopped onion

Two small red or yellow peppers

Two garlic cloves

400g minced beef

Two cans of chopped tomatoes

Two tbsp smoky barbecue sauce

Four slices of cheese

Six burger buns

Step 1)

Heat up the oil in a deep frying pan and fry up the onions, pepper and garlic until softened. This should take about 10 minutes. Add in the mince and break this up with a wooden spoon.

Stir until the meat has browned before adding the tomatoes and barbecue sauce.

Salt and pepper the mix and leave to simmer for around 15 minutes until the sauce has thickened up.

Step 2)

We are already nearly ready to serve this quick and delicious meal.

Scatter the cheese slices on top of the mince, while still in the frying pan, before covering up with a lid.

Leave this to melt for a couple of minutes then load up the delicious meat into the buns, before topping with whatever you want.

Crispy onions and lettuce can add a bit of extra texture and crunch, while sauces, such as mayonnaise, will add a new flavour to the mix.
