Emotional night for Ant and Dec at the NTA’s Posted On 23 January 2019

It has been another award-winning year for Ant and Dec, who were named as best presenters for the 18th time in a row at the National Television Awards last night

The award came as a surprise for the Geordie duo, following Ant’s drink-drive conviction and subsequent absence on TV screens.

Ant and Dec were not at the ceremony so accepted the prize via a live feed from the Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

Ant thanked fans for the award, saying it was a “genuine shock” and the award had to go to Dec “for his hard work, dedication, wit and funniness.”

BBC’s smash-hit, Bodyguard, took home two awards, including the New Drama Award and actor Richard Madden won Drama Performance for playing DS David Budd.

Speaking on stage, executive producer Simon Heath said: “The person who should be taking this trophy is our genius writer Jed Mercurio, and our fantastic leading man Richard Madden and the wonderful Keeley Hawes- what a brilliant partnership they made.”

Once again, This Morning won the Daytime Programme award much to the annoyance of an angry looking Piers Morgan.

This Morning presenters Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby clearly celebrated in style after they both appeared on today’s showing looking worse for wear.

Holly Willoughby accepted the highly contested Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, which beat Love Island and The Graham Norton Show.

Strictly Come Dancing beat the X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and The Voice UK to win Best Talent Show after a year of record viewing figures for the BBC One show.

This year’s special recognition award was given to broadcaster David Dimbleby, who this year stepped down from his 25-year presenting role for Question Time.
