Embracing The Cosy Posted On 19 October 2021

Your Autumn style Fix

Autumn officially began two weeks ago and whilst we are still being treated to the occasional kiss of sunshine, it is time to indulge in the cosiness that comes with the autumnal season. After a year in tracksuits and lounge/athleisure wear, this autumn presents the perfect opportunity for some fearless fashion choices.

One trend sure to appeal to the fashion forward yet comfort dwellers amongst you is the high/low trend. Layer your favourite chunky knit with fancier evening wear and either cinch with a belt to define your waist or leave loose for a freer feel. Whichever you opt for, you’ve nailed the daytime casual look.

On the theme of knitwear, this season it truly is the bigger the better, size up in your chosen knits to hit this trend head on. If your knitwear drags in the puddles, you’re on the right track (no, seriously). Helping us to keep toasty as the weather gets cooler is the ever-trusty puffer jacket, the more outrageous, be it in colour or silhouette – the better. The seemingly opposite trend to this is cut-outs. Cut outs were in two seasons ago and can be upcycled to become part of your Autumn/Winter wardrobe for this year too.

Colour blocking is here to stay so once you find a shade or tone which suits you, stick to it and make sure your entire outfit embraces your chosen monosyllabic colour. If you’re not feeling quite as edgy, why not opt for shades of the same colour to break your look up slightly? Shades of brown were popular in runways from (L-R) Acne Studios, Schiaparelli and Gestuz this year. Choosing to dip into the brown palette throws a nod to the colour blocking trend without feeling too ‘out-there’. A brown, camel, taupe, chocolate mix is more subdued yet sophisticated.

Finally, the most fun trend to embrace this AW is one that’s probably already in your closet. ‘Out Out’ is huge this season– sequins, satin, heels, wrap dresses – you name it, if you feel it’s suitable for a night out, you’re hitting the trend and feeling fabulous all at the same time.
