Captain Tom becomes oldest person to have a number one single! Posted On 27 April 2020

Captain Tom Moore’s version of the iconic hit, “You’ll never walk alone” alongside Michael Ball and the NHS Voices of Care Choir, has topped the UK charts.

The achievement means that the 99-year old is the oldest person to have a UK number one single. The previous record was held by Tom Jones, who reached No.1 with [Barry] Islands In The Stream aged 68 in 2006.

Captain Moore has already raised an incredible £29 million for the NHS by walking laps of his garden. Both initiatives were started to help celebrate his 100th birthday on Thursday 30th April.

Alongside calls for the war veteran to be knighted for his amazing efforts, the Royal Mail has just revealed that all stamped post, up until Friday, will be marked with: “Happy 100th Birthday Captain Thomas Moore NHS fundraising hero 30th April 2020.”

You can buy his single here: https://michaelball.lnk.to/NeverWalkAloneTW

And donations to Captain Tom’s chosen charity, NHS Charities Together, can still be made at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tomswalkforthenhs

You can also send a birthday card to Tom! Simply post to: Captain Tom Moore, C/O Post Office Limited, 67 Bedford Road, Marston Moretaine, MK43 0LA, Bedfordshire, England or send a virtual card using the hashtag #makeacardfortom
